Canvas UX Course Evaluation
Improving LMS Engagement Through UX & Learning Strategy
I led a UX and learning strategy evaluation of a Canvas-based UX curriculum at Western Governors University, examining course structure, assessment flow, and learner interaction patterns. By combining UX research, A/B testing, and instructional design best practices, this work improved accessibility, visual clarity, and learning pathways across the LMS experience.

The Challenge
Western Governors University delivered a well-established, Canvas-based UX curriculum; however, learner data and feedback revealed structural inconsistencies across modules, unclear navigation patterns, and uneven engagement with assessments. Accessibility gaps and visual density further disrupted learner flow and confidence, particularly during high-cognitive-load activities. Addressing these issues required a UX-led evaluation that could improve clarity, accessibility, and engagement—without introducing risk to existing systems or instructional infrastructure.
Project Goals
- Establish consistent learning pathways across modules and assessments
- Improve navigation clarity and reduce cognitive load through UX and accessibility best practices
- Validate design and content decisions using A/B testing and learner behavior data
- Strengthen alignment between instructional intent, platform design, and learner experience
The Process
